Five persons who were swimming in the Mahaweli River in the Kalugamuwa area in Peradeniya have drowned yesterday (05).
Residents of the area have managed to save the lives of two of them and one dead body has been found. A 20-year-old mother and her 2-year-old child have gone missing, police said.
The deceased has been identified as a 20-year-old resident of Mapanawatura, Kandy.
Police lifeguards, navy personnel and residents of the area are still searching for the missing persons, police said.
