Director General of the Road Development Authority Sardha Weerakoon yesterday announced that the Colombo-Kandy Road would be closed near the Lower Kadugannwa from 10 pm today (10) owing to a landslide threat there.
A single lane of the route would be kept open till 10 pm, Weerakoon said adding that the time for the reopening of the road would be informed after an inspection by the officials of the National Building and Research Organisation at 7 am tomorrow.
Weerakoon requested motorists to exercise caution when driving in heavy rain and use the following as the alternative routes:
Alternative routes from Colombo to Kandy
1. From Ambepussa to Kurunegala, and to use Galagedara-Katugastota route to Kandy
2. From Kegalle to Polgahawela to Kurunegala to use Galagedara-Katugastota route to Kandy
3. From Mawanella to Rambukkana to Hatharaliyadda to use Galagedara-Katugastota route to Kandy
4. From Mawanella to Hemmathagama to use Gampola-Preadeniya route to Kandy

1. From Katugastota-Galagedara to Kurunegala to proceed to Colombo
2. From Katugastota- Galagedara-Rambukkana to proceed to Colombo
