Teachers’ and principals’ struggle is over – Decided to report to duty from 25th

Teachers and principals who were engaged in a fierce trade union struggle have decided to resume their teaching and education activities from the 25th of this month.

The Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union Confederation has announced that they will report for duty from the 25th of this month.

With the closure of schools in the wake of the Covid epidemic, children studying in government schools also lost nearly 100 days of online education due to the struggle of teachers and principals.

Although at first the parents of the children rallied in support of the teachers and principals, as the strike continued and the children’s education began to be severely affected, there was growing displeasure and protest in the society against teachers and principals.

Meanwhile, the government also made various attempts to resolve this issue and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa also held discussions with the Teachers’ and Principals’ Associations on two occasions. The second discussion was held at Temple Trees last week. The government has decided to open schools with less than 200 students on the 21st. The Prime Minister is trying to solve this problem in a positive way and in a way that does not harm the education of the children. During the discussion with the Teachers’ and Principals’ Associations, there was no objection to the solutions given by the Prime Minister. That is only until you come out of the Temple Trees. They came out of Temple Trees and told television cameras that the talks were not successful and their decision would be announced the next day after a discussion with the unions.

After that statement, it became clear what their decision is. The Teachers’ and Principals’ Associations rejected the solution offered by the Prime Minister. They then said that even though the schools started on the 21st, they would not go to schools. He also said that children will not be taught.

At the same time, the voices of the people against the teachers’ unions are being heard. Meanwhile, the majority of principals and teachers decided to go to school and educate children, contrary to the decisions of the Teachers ‘Principals’ Associations. At the same time, the teachers’ and principals’ associations that failed after discussions with the Prime Minister to adopt saw that their flexible policy is failing. They may have finally realized that it was not so good to continue their fight as the people began to reject them. This may be the reason why it is said that schools will start from the 25th instead of the 21st and 22nd. However, everyone should be happy for ending everything in a positive way. Otherwise, there is a good chance that the parents would have come forward, leaving aside the respect of the teacher.
