On World Postal Day new three stamp categories – world Postal Day commemorative stamp, new Rs1000 stamp and a set of themed stamps featuring endemic bird species in Sri Lanka- were issued under the patronage of the Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees today (09th September).
Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma- Minister of Mass Media, presented the first day envelopes and stamps to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Mr. Pulasthi Ediriweera has created the new 2021 World Postal Day Commemorative Stamp, reflecting the fact that the Sri Lanka Postal Service is still active internationally despite the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.
The Rs. 1000 stamp designed by Mr. Isuru Chathuranga portrays a hand-drawn graphic of Yapahuwa lion.
Among the stamps issued today are six stamps depicting endemic birds that have never been reflected in Sri Lankan stamps or first day covers.
