Sri Lankans receive bittersweet treatment from South African players

South Africa beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in a three-match Twenty20 cricket tournament tonight (14).

Batting first, the South Africans restricted the Sri Lankans to 120 runs taking 8 wickets at the R. Premadasa Stadium. South Africa scored 121 runs in 14.4 overs without conceding a single wicket.

For South Africa, Quinton de Kock scored 59 off 46 balls, including seven fours. Reeza Hendricks, who had a record partnership with him in the opening wicket, scored 56 off 42 balls. He graced his innings with five fours and one six.

No Sri Lankan bowler could keep their economy less than 7. Kusal Perera was the only successful player for Sri Lanka. He scored 39 off 33 balls.

This is the last Twenty20 tournament Sri Lanka has faced before the Twenty20 World Cup. Cricket commentators say that in order to maintain Sri Lanka’s name in world cricket, the Sri Lankan players need to enter the World Cup in a different strategy and play a different game.

Lasith Malinga, who captained Sri Lanka to the Twenty20 World Cup in 2014, also announced his retirement from Twenty20 matches today. That was before 48 hours passed after it was confirmed he would not be in the World Cup squad.
