Media Coalition requests the government to protect Afghan journalists in Sri Lanka

The Media Coalition calls on the government to provide protection to Sri Lankan Afghan journalists who are facing serious threats to their lives.

The Coalition of Media Organizations has made this request in a letter to Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and External Affairs Minister Prof. GL Peiris.

On behalf of the Association of Media Organizations, the request was made by the Federation of Media Workers’ Trade Unions, the Free Media Movement, the Sri Lanka Professional Journalists’ Association, the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum, the Tamil Media Forum and the Sri Lanka Young Journalists’ Association.

As a consortium of media organizations in Sri Lanka, we would like to draw your attention to the serious and dangerous situation facing our fellow Afghan journalists at this time as many of them are in grave danger in the face of the Taliban regime. The letter also requested to focus on providing protection of Sri Lanka for them.
