    Smoke in Homagama Reduces – Security Measures were Tightened at Chemical Plant

    The smoke that came out of a chemical factory located in Homagama Katuwana has been controlled so far, but it is reported that the people of the area have suffered from respiratory problems.

    Due to the smoke coming out from the damage to an underground air tank of the factory, the police have closed the roads leading to the factory.

    The police mentioned that fire engines and ambulance services have also been prepared and positioned.

    A white smoke has been coming out from this factory premises located in Homagama since the morning of today (08).

    The police had advised the local residents to wear face masks.

    This factory caught fire on August 17 last year.

    There, chemicals were spread throughout the factory and a program had been started to dispose of them again in a proper manner.

    Later, the Central Environment Authority told them to store them properly until they come and dispose of them properly.

    There, factory workers have arranged to store these chemicals in underground tanks.

    It is reported that an underground tank where chemicals were stored was damaged during the construction work.

    Yesterday (07) there was heavy rain in this area.
