Citing the Ministry of Finance, the President’s Media Unit said that by registering to obtain a Tax Identification Number (TIN) for individuals over 18 years of age, it does not mean that everyone who registers is automatically subject to certain taxes.
The government emphasizes that a person over the age of 18 years will become an income tax payer only if he receives an annual income of more than 12 lakh rupees.
However, from February 1, it will be mandatory for every person above 18 to submit a tax number (TIN) when opening a current account, seeking building plan approval, registering a motor vehicle, renewing a license and registering land ownership.
