2 Acres of Land from the Government for Those Coming from Abroad After Agricultural Jobs

Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara, Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, said that the government will take steps to provide two acres of land together with the Ministry of Lands in order to turn all the workers who go abroad for jobs in the agricultural sector into Agri entrepreneurs after they return to the island.

The Minister disclosed this while attending the program held yesterday (1) at the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau for the commencement of the new year.

Accordingly, the Minister stated that these lands will be provided to contribute directly to the economy of this country through the knowledge gained by those engaged in jobs related to the agro-industrial sector abroad.

The Minister also pointed out that this program will bring about an awakening in the agro-industrial sector of Sri Lanka and the opportunity to create new entrepreneurs related to the agricultural sector.

Accordingly, he said that he has received the President’s full support and permission to provide the relevant lands and accordingly, discussions have been held with the Ministry of Lands.

The minister pointed out that Sri Lanka should follow the steps taken by South Korea to become a developed economy as an example, and the same way that the emigrant workers of that country became entrepreneurs after coming back to their country, the emigrant workers of this country should also be turned into entrepreneurs after coming back to the island.

The Minister stated that the Foreign Employment Bureau of Sri Lanka should also become a part of the program that leads Sri Lanka to a manufacturing economy by creating entrepreneurship and work with the aim of turning 10% of the country’s population into entrepreneurs.

Accordingly, during this year, the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau should pay more attention to the creation of new entrepreneurs in the country, the minister said.
