    ‘Uncle Percy’ is Gone

    Mr. Percy Abeysekera, popularly known as ‘Uncle Percy’, the most famous cheerleader of the Sri Lankan cricket field, has passed away.

    He passed away while undergoing treatment at Ragama Hospital due to illness.

    He is known on the field to be the strength of the Sri Lankan cricket team for decades and he is a volunteer cheerleader who has been receiving medical treatment due to an illness that has been going on for some time.

    Born on July 30, 1936, Mr. Percy Abeysekera was 87 years old when he died.

    Last September, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) paid Rs. 5 million as a donation considering his health condition.

    Sri Lanka Cricket has said that this donation was given to maintain Mr. Abeysekara’s good health. “As a happy cheerleader, Percy’s contribution to Sri Lankan cricket is immeasurable. He was a pillar of strength to the players and the game as a whole. This is the opportunity we have got to find out about his well-being,” Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mohan De Silva said there.

    Mr. Sanath Jayasuriya, who was a world-famous former cricket star of the Sri Lankan team, had made a sensitive note about Uncle Percy and it’s as follows.
