Public Utilities Commission Approves 18% Hike in Electricity Tariffs Amid Economic Strain

In response to a request by the Electricity Board, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has granted permission to increase electricity tariffs by 18 percent, effective immediately from today (20).

The decision, made during a commission meeting, was confirmed by Chairman Professor Manjula Fernando. Details on the revised charges per unit will be announced later today.

This marks the third electricity tariff hike in a year, raising concerns among consumers and sparking worries about the broader economic impact.

The surge in electricity costs is expected to lead to a domino effect, causing prices of various services and goods to rise, adding further strain on the public.

    1. Putting more burden in normal life of people. Instead of third straight hike they should impose more tariff for commercial use and less to domestic users
