    Police receives 2000 Tuk Tuks to fight Crime

    Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (01) symbolically presented 2000 three-wheelers to the Sri Lanka Police for the task of preventing crime, drugs and ensuring national security through intelligence and civil duties.

    The government has spent over Rs. 829 million on these duty free three wheelers.

    The three-wheelers are expected to be used in crime prevention and investigation at the relevant police stations, investigation of various complaints, deployment of 119 emergency calls as required, for the duties of the Children and Women’s Bureau and the Anti-Corruption Division, for intelligence duties and civil duties in the intelligence divisions.

    Recognizing the need for every police station to have a strong transport system, these three wheelers are being distributed to police stations islandwide in line with President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s Vision for Prosperity policy statement.

    Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa symbolically presented these three wheelers to the OICs of Meegoda, Gothatuwa, Yakkala, Bemmulla, Pallewela, Mihijaya Sevana, Cinnamon Gardens, Egoda Uyana and Mattegoda Police Stations.

    The program also promotes the concept of community Police by strengthening liaison between the police and the public to facilitate quick access to rural areas.
