    Pioneering Producer of Iconic Sri Lankan Films and Batik Entrepreneur Buddhi Keerthisena Passed Away

    The Sri Lankan film industry and artistic community are in mourning following the passing of Mr. Buddhi Keerthisena, a distinguished film producer, journalist, and entrepreneur. At the age of 83, he left a significant mark on the country’s cinema landscape, having produced notable films such as ‘Matha,’ ‘Ayoma,’ ‘Vijayaba Kollaya,’ and ‘Sujatha’ (new production), among others.

    In addition to his contributions to the film world, Keerthisena was a trailblazer in the local batik industry. He established the renowned ‘Buddhi Batik,’ elevating Sri Lankan batik art to international acclaim. His legacy extends to his son, Boodee Keerthisena, an award-winning film director and producer, who continues the family’s creative tradition.

    Beyond his roles in cinema and business, Keerthisena served as the former president of the National Arts Council and led Cinecity Cinemas. The news of his passing has elicited heartfelt tributes from colleagues, friends, and admirers, reflecting his lasting impact on Sri Lanka’s cultural scene.

    The final rites for Mr. Buddhi Keerthisena will take place at his residence at 158/3 Lake Drive from the early hours of tomorrow (18th) until 9 am on Wednesday, the 19th. Subsequently, the body will be moved to the Buddhi Batik house in Koswadiya from 12 noon on the 19th until Saturday. The cremation ceremony will be held at the Koswadiya cemetery at 4:00 pm on the same day, marking the farewell to a beloved figure in Sri Lankan cinema and arts.
