Update on Sri Lankans in Israel Amidst Conflict

The Sri Lankan Foreign Employment Bureau has provided an update regarding the Sri Lankan citizens currently staying in Israel amidst the ongoing conflict. According to Mr. Gamini Senarath Yapa, the bureau’s media spokesperson, there has been no request from Sri Lankans in Israel to be brought back to Sri Lanka due to the conflicts.

However, the bureau assured that if any individuals wish to return to Sri Lanka, necessary facilities and assistance will be provided. Addressing the concerns raised on social media about a missing Sri Lankan woman in Israel, the spokesperson emphasized that any reports of deaths require official confirmation, usually conducted by embassy officials. Unfortunately, due to the current war in the Gaza Strip, accessing these areas for confirmation has been challenging. Therefore until then, this Sri Lankan is considered a missing person.

The spokesperson urged citizens to trust information provided by the Embassy and responsible media outlets and assured that the safety and well-being of Sri Lankans abroad remain a top priority for the government. Commercial flights will continue to operate if there is a need for repatriation in the future. The situation is being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as soon as confirmation can be obtained regarding the missing individuals.
