A person infected with the deadly Delta covid variant, which is spreading rapidly in India, has also been found in Kahathuduwa.
The man was 47 years old. He has been identified as an employee of a construction company located in Slave Island, Colombo.
The victim has been referred to the Covid Treatment Center in Polonnaruwa for treatment.
According to the health authorities, the victim’s children and relatives have been placed under quarantine. The Jayaliyagama area in Kahathuduwa where he lived has also been isolated.
Kahathuduwa Medical Officer of Health Dhanuka Pathmaraja stated that the infected person had not been exposed to the people in the area and that it was suspected that he had contracted the virus through the construction company.
