It is against the new tax policy imposed by the government.
The Association of Government Medical Officers says that from 8.00 am today, doctors in government hospitals are engaged in a 24-hour symbolic strike and a protest rally has also been organized at Hyde Park in Colombo.
The Government Medical Officers Association further stated that there will be no curtailment of emergency treatment services during the strike period and all necessary measures have been taken to maintain emergency services.
It is also reported that trade unions in many sectors such as ports, petroleum, electricity, air traffic controllers, university professors, banks will launch trade union actions today.
The trade unions have also said that a massive protest has been organized in front of the Fort railway station at lunchtime today.
