Four persons drowned while bathing in canals and reservoirs due to bad weather yesterday (04) alone.
The accidents have taken place in Vavuniya, Kiriella, Katupotha and Pannala.
A 16-year-old student has died in Vavuniya. He had drowned while bathing in the Arsakulama tank in Vavuniya. The deceased from Kiriella has been identified as a 43-year-old man. Police says that he fell to his death while having fun riding a vehicle tube with another person in the floodwaters of the Kalu ganga. The person is a resident of Kiriella, Katetpola.
Another deceased has been identified from Katupotha as a 20-year-old youth. He had gone to bathe in the Kalubulu Oya and died. The youth is a resident of Moragahahena.
The next deceased has been identified as a 28 year old youth in Pannala. He too had drowned while swimming in the Pin Oya and was swept away by a water wave.
