A State Minister resigned from the post protecting the consumers

Lecturer Gunapala Rathnasekera has handed over his resignation letter to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as the State Minister of Cooperative Services and Consumer Protection.

He is a scholar who entered Parliament from the National List of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuma and submitted his resignation letter to the President during the debate in Parliament today.

The Minister of State stated that the letter of resignation from the Ministry was handed over to the President last evening as there was no environment to work in the Ministries at this time. Mr. Gunapala Rathnasekera stated that the President at that time refused to accept the letter and that he had returned the letter at his request.

He pointed out that the country does not have the social and political stability to function in this ministry and that one should have the mentality to continue working in a ministry. He emphasized that stability was the key.

Gunapala Rathnasekera is also a member of the group of 10 backbenchers in the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna who are spearheading the formation of an all party government.
