N. K. Jayawardena, President of the Sri Lanka Bakery Owners’ Association states that more than 1,000 bakeries have been forced to close due to the severe gas shortage in the market.
He also says the bakery industry is at high risk as prices of wheat flour, margarine and eggs have risen.
The President of the Sri Lanka Bakery Owners’ Association further stated that the production of bread and other bakery products is at a very low level due to the high cost of production and the shortage of raw materials.
