The Ministry of Fisheries says that steps will be taken to enforce the law by submitting a special cabinet paper to the Government of India to recover the damage caused to Sri Lankan marine resources and fishermen due to the illegal activities of Indian fishermen.
Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda stated that in accordance with the existing regulations in Act No. 11 of 2017 and Act No. 01 of 2018, matters such as tightening laws on arrests and confiscation as well as formulating a four-pronged methodology in this regard will be included in the relevant cabinet paper.
The Minister further stated that steps will be taken to stop and arrest any other foreign vessels fishing in Sri Lankan waters.
