Two malaria patients have been found in Jaffna within a week, said Dr. Prasad Ranaweera, Director of the National Malaria Eradication Campaign.
The director said that one patient had recently arrived from a foreign country and it was suspected that he had contracted malaria in that country.
Due to the sudden encounter of two malaria patients in Jaffna, a mosquito control program is being implemented throughout the district, said Mr. Prasad Ranaweera.
He also said that people who have come from an African country or have contracted malaria within a year or so should be informed and advised to consult a doctor.
He also said that before traveling to a country where malaria is endemic, do not forget to visit a government hospital and obtain free anti-malarial pills.
