Dr. Alahapperuma said that due to the Covid epidemic, diabetic patients are reported to be unable to attend clinics and receive diabetes medication, which has led to an increase in their eye diseases.
The doctor said that diabetics should pay special attention to this as it has a strong effect on eye diseases.
The Director of the hospital said that the activities of the Colombo National Eye Hospital are being carried out as usual and outpatient treatment units are being conducted daily from 8 am to 8 pm and clinics are being conducted daily until 4 pm, and patients can come and receive treatments.
In addition, eye clinics and eye care units are being set up at major hospitals islandwide, where patients can also receive treatment, the hospital director said.
