A state of emergency has been declared at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital

A state of emergency has been declared at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle.

The director of the hospital has issued a letter declaring a state of emergency in the hospital as the capacity of the units reserved for Covid patients has started to exceed.

This is also due to the rapid growth of Covid patients and the reporting of patients from different units of the hospital and the increase in infection of the hospital staff.

The letter requested that the patients with Covid Infections who do not have any respiratory or other complications should be referred to the Medical Health Officer in charge of the area and the local Epidemiologists will be notified and directed to stay at home in accordance with standard security measures until facilities are available at intermediate treatment centers.

The hospital staff has been instructed to make arrangements for the patients with complications to be kept in their own units until the necessary facilities are available from the units reserved for Covid patients.

Patients arriving from the outpatient department and the emergency room are referred to the local medical officer of the patient’s area and the local epidemiologist for further treatment without any referral to the ward. Informed.
