The name of the Leader of the National Freedom Front, MP Wimal Weerawansa has been nominated for the leadership of the 9 independent parties in Parliament.
Representatives of these 9 parties met at the Communist Party of Sri Lanka headquarters today (31) and presented this proposal.
The 21st Amendment to the Constitution was also discussed at the meeting.
Commenting on this, Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa stated that the proposal prepared by the Independent parties regarding the 21st Amendment to the Constitution will be handed over to the Prime Minister tomorrow (1).
The leader of the Democratic Left Front, MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara stated that Wimal Weerawansa could be nominated as the Prime Ministerial candidate in the forthcoming general election.
Therefore, Wimal Weerawansa will be appointed as the leader of all Independent Parties, he said.
