22 candidates for the presidential election have deposited bail money so far.
Today and in the next few days, another group of candidates are going to deposit their bail money. According to political analysis information, it appears that the number of candidates in this year’s presidential election will exceed 30.
Yesterday also, four candidates deposited the security money before the Election Commission.
On behalf of the Socialist Equality Party, Mr. Pani Wijewardene, Mr. Biyanwilage Antony Victor Perera, Mr. Abidurus Mohammad Ilyas, and Mr. Marakkala Mage Premasiri have submitted their nominations.
The Election Commission states that 11 recognized political parties and another party as well as 10 independent candidates have deposited their security deposits.
After the election commission announced the date of the presidential election, the first deposit was made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe as an independent candidate.
