The Sri Lanka Air Force, in collaboration with Eagles’ Golf Links and Courses, successfully concluded the third edition of the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup Golf Tournament on 29 September 2024 amidst the picturesque backdrop of China Bay, near the harbour city of Trincomalee. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, honoured the event as the Chief Guest. Adding to the prestige of the occasion, Huawei sponsored the tournament, enhancing its grandeur and providing a memorable experience for all participants.
The tournament, conducted under the Stableford Scoring System, commenced in the morning with the participation of over sixty (60) enthusiastic golfers, including eight women golfers, along with former Commanders of the Sri Lanka Air Force. The tournament was officially inaugurated when the Commander of the Air Force took the first tee-off, marking the start of a highly competitive and enjoyable day of golf.
Mr. Ranjith Leon secured the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup trophy, achieving the highest score in the Gents’ category, while Mrs. Frank De Mel emerged as the Ladies’ Trophy winner. Wing Commander Lakmal Gunawardana (Retd) claimed the Runner-up position in the Gents’ category and Ms. Dilini Hennayake was awarded the Ladies’ Runner-up position. In addition, Wing Commander Lakmal Gunawardana (Retd) and Mr. Suranga Palliyaguru received accolades for the Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin, respectively, in the Gents’ category, while Mrs. Pumali Ranasinghe secured the Longest Drive in the Ladies’ category. The Wooden Spoon was awarded to Mr. Lakshitha Herath.
The Eagles’ Monsoon Defence Challenge Trophy, presented to members of the Tri-Services in the Men’s category, was won by Squadron Leader Janaka Pitawala from the Sri Lanka Air Force. Major Thissa Kumara from the Sri Lanka Army was the Runner-up for the Defence Challenge Trophy. Wing Commander Prabath Wijekoon and Colonel WRSB Ehelepola received awards for the Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin, respectively, in the Defence Challenge. The Best Total Net score in the Six Hidden Holes competition segment was achieved by Group Captain Gunanandana Jayalath.
The awards of the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup were given away at a gala Awards Ceremony held at ‘Marble Beach Air Force Resort’ during the evening of the same day. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, graced the Awards Ceremony as the Chief Guest.
