“Why are those who cannot get even 1000 votes running for the presidency?”

It is a question what do those who are unable to get even 1000 votes expect from running for the presidential election and because of this the money that has to be spent in addition to polling is crores of rupees.

Due to this, the Anunayaka Nahimi of the Malwatu faction also said that apart from increasing the printing costs due to the unnecessarily large size of the ballot paper, the people will also find it difficult to vote for their favorite candidate.

Anunayaka Nahimi said that because of the greed of some unpopular people to make their names known, they have deposited bail money for the presidential election and in the future, the ballot paper may be extended further by other people depositing bail money.

He also said that due to the lengthening of the ballot paper like the Mahapatharanga Jataka, the government money as well as the time and labor of the officials have to be spent in addition.

Wimaladhamma thero said that a monk who came to deposit the bail money for the presidential election said that he had forgotten to bring the money for it and turned back and came back on another day and it is a big problem if the brains of those working with the hope of becoming the President are working like this.

He said that it is a big problem that people who have no understanding of educated and intelligent governance are running for the office of President and because of this, there is a possibility that the voter will also face difficulties in choosing the right candidate.

The elders said that the voters are following certain candidates like bulls following the caravan and otherwise it is the responsibility of the people to choose who is the right person to deliver the country.

He mentioned this when Mr. Roshan Ranasinghe, chairman of the “Rebuild the Motherland Against Corruption” and former Chief Justice Sarath N de Silva, visited Malwatu Maha Vihara yesterday (08) and received his blessings.
