The Kataragama police have arrested a police officer who sexually assaulted a woman while he was on special duty in the Asala Perahera of Kataragama Maha Saman Temple.
A 32-year-old police constable attached to the Matara Police Station was arrested yesterday evening.
This officer abused a 19-year-old girl who had gone to watch the procession from Pannipitiya.
This officer abused her on the temple grounds.
Matara Superintendent of Police has taken steps to suspend this officer today.
