Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court has remanded a police officer who defrauded a woman by claiming that she would be sent to work in Canada and took money and gold ornaments.
This officer, who is a police constable, is attached to the Nallathanniya police station and is 42 years old.
On March 22, the Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau received the complaint that this police officer had taken 900,000 rupees and one pound and a quarter worth of gold items by stating that he would send the victim to work in Canada.
The police said that the day before yesterday (11) the officer was handed over to the court by a lawyer when an investigation was conducted and the matter was reported to the court and the officer was ready to be arrested. The magistrate remanded him there.
