A 65-year-old domestic worker employed at the residence of former Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva in Elvitigala Mawatha, Borella, has died following a tragic elevator accident, police confirmed.
According to the Borella Police, the woman sustained serious injuries after her head became trapped between the slab of the upper floor and the door of the elevator while she was traveling inside the lift.
The accident occurred yesterday evening (June 28). The injured woman was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after admission.
Investigations revealed that the woman had been traveling to the first floor of the house in the elevator when her head protruded outside the lift, leading to the fatal mishap.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Stacepura, Grandpass.
Further investigations are ongoing.
