    6-acre land belonging to the UDA was leased without the approval of BoD

    It has been revealed before the COPE Committee that a 6 acre land belonging to the Urban Development Authority, located at James Peiris Mawatha, Colombo 02, has been leased for ninety-nine years without the approval of the Board of Directors.

    It has been revealed before the committee that the land has been leased for 12 billion rupees in 2019 and it has also been revealed that in addition to the lease terms submitted and approved by the board of directors, other terms that were not approved by the board of directors have been included in the drafting of the lease agreement related to this land.

    Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the Urban Development Authority has incurred a loss of 330 million rupees due to the leasing of a two acres, two roods, and 21.4 perches of land bordering Colombo Fort DR Wijewardana Mawatha without the formal approval of the Board of Directors.

    Accordingly, the COPE Committee has informed the officials of the Urban Development Authority to provide a complete report of all the investment lands owned by the Urban Development Authority within two weeks.
