The first installment of the extended fund facility approved by the International Monetary Fund will be received in the next few hours, the government said.
Presently joining the parliamentary session, Speaker of the House, Minister of Education Mr. Susil Premajayantha said this.
He also claims that the clarifications regarding the conditions, content etc. related to getting this credit facility could be done even today.
“Especially with the decision taken by the International Monetary Fund yesterday, 2.9 billion dollars are to be received in four years. It has been approved, and I think the first part of it will be available in the next few hours. These are received to strengthen the reserves. But in the meantime, due to some policy decisions taken by the central bank and the government, we were able to, I think two weeks ago, attract about 500 million dollars to the banks from within the country. Where was this money? A 500 million! We will receive the first tranche of 333 million dollars from the IMF. Anyway, the amount of money that circulated in the country came into the banks… So it is something according to economic theories, in the program of how to strengthen a country’s economy.” The Leader of the House further said that.
