    Army to the rescue

    In response to adverse weather conditions across the country, the Sri Lanka Army, under the guidance of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army deployed troops to facilitate the transportation of students sitting for the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination. Special transport arrangements have been made to ensure students can reach their examination centers in the affected areas. Army personnel, equipped with trucks and Uni-Buffel vehicles, have been deployed to locations such as Thihagoda, Malimbada, Athuraliya, Akurassa, and Kamburupitiya Godawa Temple to assist students facing access issues due to weather-related disruptions.

    Furthermore, Army troops, along with trucks and Uni-Buffel vehicles, have been placed on standby in Matara, Yatiyana, and Wariyapola to address any potential emergency situations arising from the inclement weather.

    The Army Chief has instructed the Commander of 1 Corps and all Security Force Commanders to remain on standby and extend relief operations to other affected areas if necessary.
