Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha says that the transformational change in the education system in Sri Lanka is expected to start from next month.
The minister stated this while attending the ceremony held at the Maharagama National Institute of Education for the recruitment of the diploma holders who completed the National Education Science Diploma training in the 3-1 (b) grade of the teaching service in the academic year 2018-2020.
The existing classification of schools will change with the expected changes in the education administration.
Accordingly, the minister stated that in the future, schools with grades 1-5 will be classified as primary schools, schools with grades 6-10 as junior secondary schools and schools with grades 10-13 as senior secondary schools.
The minister pointed out that this classification will make it easier to make administrative decisions in the school system, including the appointment of principals for schools and the transfer of teachers.
He emphasized that the purpose of this is to correct the derailed places in the education system and direct it to one common path.
Also, with the aim of providing nutritious meals to school students, the program of providing a meal for the children of grades 1-5 has been implemented at the schools and a lot of effort had to be put in to make the task successful.
In addition to teaching, the minister emphasized that all teachers have to act responsibly towards children.
This year, 322 diploma holders who completed the National Education Science Diploma were given teacher appointments, and these diploma holders were placed in national and provincial schools based on the order of merit obtained in the final examination and the need for service, and the appointments were offered for 303 diploma holders recruited for national schools. Other diploma holders will be recruited for schools at the provincial level.
