Reflecting the continuous cooperation between the Russian Federation and Sri Lanka, a donation of sunflower oil worth US$1.5 million has been made from Russia to Sri Lanka through the United Nations World Food Program.
The donation was officially handed over to the Government of Sri Lanka yesterday (16) at the World Food Program Cooperation Party Secretariat premises in Colombo.
On December 30, 2023, 117.3 metric tons of sunflower oil and on January 4, 2024, 13.1 metric tons of oil were delivered to Sri Lanka from the Russian government.
The total donation of 130.41 metric tons of oil was officially handed over to the Government of Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, as the first phase of this program, 351.9 metric tons of sunflower oil was given to Sri Lanka from the Russian Federation on July 4, 2023.
The donation has been made under the Emergency Response Program and will go directly to low-income and vulnerable families across the island.
8625 families especially in the districts of Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya and Trincomalee will benefit from this.
