Gampaha police arrested an Ayurvedic doctor who ran away after running over an officer of the traffic department of the Gampaha police who was on duty at the Batapotha Pothgul temple for the Vesak festival.
Two officers attached to the Gampaha Police have been deployed for security duties at the Pothgul temple.
While these two officers were travelling for duty, they saw a heavy traffic jam near the Batapotha Junction and intervened to control it.
At this time, a jeep on the road hit one of the two officers who were controlling the traffic on the road. At that time, the driver of the jeep and another person who was there shouted at the police officers and ran away without finding out what happened to the officer who was hit by the jeep.
The police officer who was hit by the jeep was injured and hospitalized. During the investigation based on the number plate of the jeep, it has been revealed that the jeep was driven by an Ayurveda doctor. Accordingly, the 70-year-old Ayurvedic doctor was arrested by the police. The Gampaha Police stated that further investigations are being conducted to find the other suspect in the jeep who threatened the police officers at the time of the accident.
