An order from the President about the University Rag

President Ranil Wickramasinghe has instructed the Vice-Chancellors to implement an organized program to prevent university rag in the university system of Sri Lanka.

The President also gave information about the plans to be implemented in the future to direct the university system in Sri Lanka to a new path.

The President also drew attention to the emerging problems of providing government jobs to graduates and explained the importance of introducing programs and training courses to develop the skills of university students in a way that suits the new job market.

The President mentioned this in the discussion held at the President’s Office this morning (13) on the contribution of university students to the National Youth Platform, which will be created in conjunction with the 75th Independence Day celebrations next year.

The preliminary plan related to the program was presented by Mr. Randula Abeyweera, the Presidential Director of Youth Affairs and Sustainable Development, and the University Vice-Chancellors presented their views and suggestions on it.

He mentioned that the future development plans of the country should be prepared not for today but for the next 25 years, and the expectation is to maximize the contribution of the youth.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe also said that when we celebrate the centenary of independence in another 25 years, the country’s youth will be the leaders.

Therefore, the President also pointed out that the youth can present their vision, plans and creative skills to the government through the National Youth Platform to build the developed country that they desire.

Simultaneously, a project aimed at promoting the tourism industry in Sri Lanka has been planned to be implemented in the districts of Colombo, Galle, Jaffna, Kandy and Batticaloa with the participation of university students.

Accordingly, by identifying places with tourist attractions in those districts, the youth have been given the opportunity to submit plans and proposals related to their promotion as tourist zones.

Speaking further, President Ranil Wickramasinghe said that next year a new tourism policy will be introduced to promote the tourism industry.

The steps to be taken to make Sri Lanka a regional education hub was also discussed at length. The President also pointed out that it would provide an opportunity for students from regional countries including India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, to study at the country’s universities.

In addition, President Ranil Wickramasinghe also mentioned that another government university is planned to be established in Kurunegala district.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe said that the “National Youth Platform” is a great opportunity for young people to present their vision of the country’s future to the government.
