The 21st constitutional amendment is effective from today (31).
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena recorded his certification today (31) to the 22nd Constitution Amendment Bill which was passed by a special majority in Parliament recently (21).
It was presented to Parliament as the 22nd Government Constitution Amendment Bill.
But the 21st Governor’s Constitution Amendment Bill, which had been submitted to the parliament earlier, was not passed, so it remained only a draft.
As a result, the new standard amendment will come into effect as the 21st constitutional amendment.
