    An affidavit is mandatory from women going abroad

    The Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment has issued a new circular stating that women going abroad for work must provide an affidavit when registering with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.

    The Foreign Employment Bureau states that an affidavit explaining how to provide protection and care for the children of women emigrating abroad and how to provide education to those children should be prepared and received by the Divisional Secretary along with the certificate of the village official.

    However, the bureau also states that mothers with children under the age of two will not be allowed to work abroad.

    Also, when women going abroad for work register with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, the facts whether they have children or not, if have they are over 2 years of age or not, if they have unmarried children under 18 years of age, the measures taken to provide protection and education to them should be included in the affidavit, the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau states.
