Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission sources state that electricity rates will increase by 60-70% from tomorrow (08).
Although the Sri Lanka Electricity Board requested several times to increase the electricity tariffs, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka did not allow it.
Ceylon Electricity Board had requested the Public utility commission to give permission to increase the electricity tariff by 835% for people consuming electricity between 0-30 units, 673% between 31-60 units, 276% between 61-90 units, and 126% for people consuming electricity over 90 units.
According to the sources of the Public Utility Commission, permission will be given to increase the electricity rates by 60-70% from tomorrow, considering those requests.
Previously, electricity tariffs were last revised in 2014, in which steps were taken to reduce the electricity tariff by 25%.
Since 2014 there has been no revision of electricity charges till now.
We need to pay the correct amount for our usage without any reductions, it is our moral duty by the country. The country has to be benefited not the individual.
