When will the Rs. 3000 stipend will be given to pensioners?

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake instructed officials from the Ministry of Finance today (11) to ensure that the interim monthly allowance of Rs. 3000 is provided to all retirees starting from next week.

After reviewing why the Rs. 3000 allowance was not included with the October pension, the President directed the officials to deposit this amount into the retirees’ accounts within the next week.

These instructions were given during a meeting held yesterday (10) evening at the Presidential Office between the President and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance.

Although the circular No. 02/2024, dated 24th August 2024, was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration to grant a monthly interim allowance of Rs. 3000 to all retirees, no funds had been allocated for this purpose.

After examining the situation, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake instructed the Ministry of Finance officials to release the necessary funds.

Taking into consideration the challenges faced by retirees due to the non-payment of the Rs. 3000 interim allowance along with the October pension, and despite the current financial difficulties of the government, the President decided to provide this amount starting from this month.

Since the October pension has already been credited to retirees’ accounts, the Rs. 3000 allowance for October will be credited to their accounts within the next week, and from next month onwards, this allowance will be added to their monthly pension.

The President’s Media Division announced that the President gave these instructions to the officials. The discussion was attended by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumara, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Mahinda Siriwardena, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Finance.
