Appointed chairmen quit – Government in a crisis

It has been reported that filling vacancies for chairpersons and directors of government corporations, boards, and statutory bodies has become problematic following the notification requesting the resignation of current office holders.

Although efforts are being made to appoint individuals who politically supported the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and the National People’s Power (NPP) to these positions, the lack of highly qualified candidates across all sectors from among these supporters has contributed to the issue.

As a result, the government has faced criticism from opposition parties regarding some appointments. In certain cases, it has been highlighted that newly appointed individuals have previously held similar positions or the same roles under other administrations.

A complaint was received regarding the appointment of a Managing Director to the Ports Authority by the relevant minister, Vijitha Herath. Based on this complaint, the Election Commission has suspended the appointment. The commission has also informed the ministry secretary to provide a report on this matter by tomorrow (06) and has indicated that the appointment may be annulled.

It is also believed, according to reliable political sources, that there are differing opinions within the JVP and NPP about appointing qualified individuals to these roles.

    1. Trust this is not fake.
It is not an easy thing to appoint officials of 100% fitting to all desires. Did or has it happened before. Anyone is innocent until proven guilty. Give them a chance. Smart thing to do is have appropriate periodic performance evaluation in a fair transparent manner and take hard decisions in a convincing manner.

    What do you think?
