According to internal police sources, it has been proposed for the first time in Sri Lankan police history to appoint a female officer as the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Senior Police Officer Imesha Muthumala, who is currently serving as the first female Deputy Director of the CID, has been nominated for this position.
Imesha Muthumala, who is among the first three female Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) in Sri Lankan police history, joined the police service as a probationary ASP on November 3, 2007. She was promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) on March 23, 2017. If the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) is opened to female officers, she could potentially advance to that rank. She is set to retire from the police service at the age of 60 in 2041.
She holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from the University of Ruhuna and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka.
After joining the police service, Imesha Muthumala worked as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the Nugegoda Police Division and also served in the Police Disciplinary Unit. She has worked as a supervising officer in the Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the CID. She was appointed as the Deputy Director of the CID in June 2021.
She has received specialized training, including a crisis management course at the Hawaii Police Training Institute in the United States, a money laundering prevention course by the FBI in Thailand, and courses on community policing at the Royal Malaysia Police Academy and the Hyderabad Police Academy in India. Additionally, she has studied a course on cybercrime in India.
While Imesha Muthumala has been proposed for the role of CID Director, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) P. Ampavila has already been appointed as the Deputy Inspector General of the CID.
Superb. This is what the country has been waiting for.
Excellent decision ..Good luck Imesha..👏👏
Well done congratulations. Women are leading after a long time.
Congratulations 👏 well wishes .This is admirable and giving the opportunity for all gender is a great move by the department
What matters is not the gender but the Capability, and suitability. If she can tick all the required boxes…most welcome.
This is long over due in this corrupt department the cap will definitely suit Imasha
Good luck to you great lady
Brilliant. Looks like she has all attributes such as experience, academic achievement, specialized training and most importantly the metal to succeed in a male dominated force. Go president make the unbiased decision which is well within your grasp. Lady make the country proud.
DIG Ampavila was upto all types of corruption when he was Director of Financial Investigation Unit (FIU) at the Central Bank. He investigated the TRO and was after it’s funds.
If you actually know what you are saying Ampavila should be sent out to a desk job. If he is just kept as the deputy to Imasha and if she still can control him and get value that would be another way to punish him for the bad deeds. Not sure of the entire facts and as such leave this to the authorities.
Yes will make sense too. Whatever that works and what imesha is comfortable with.
If he is found guilty of the serious offences for which he is charged he should be immediately discharged of all responsibilities and make him pay.
Congratulations dear Imesha. God bless you. We need people like you.
Every man is the son of a woman who brought them up to become whatever he is. Woman has in her that motherly quality. Thank you mother for bringing me up .
best of luck imesh we proud of you
