    IMF praises the new government

    Representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have expressed their appreciation for the ongoing reforms in Sri Lanka under the current government, aimed at improving the country’s positive image.

    The Presidential Media Division stated that a decisive step has been taken today in the country’s commitment to economic stability and the continuous support received from the IMF.

    This was during discussions held today (02) when a high-level delegation from the IMF arrived in Sri Lanka to review the future plans of the new government led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

    The purpose of this visit was to assess the progress of the IMF program and conduct discussions regarding the release of the fourth tranche of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) amounting to USD 2.9 billion.

    Accordingly, a meeting between the visiting IMF delegation and the economic team appointed by the new government for IMF discussions was held this afternoon (02) at the Presidential Secretariat.

    Both parties reviewed the progress of the IMF program so far and presented plans for future actions.

    The IMF delegation consisted of Dr. Peter Breuer, Senior Mission Chief, Dr. Sarwat Jahan, IMF Resident Representative, and economist Manavi Abeywickrama. Representing Sri Lanka were Dr. Harsha Suriyapperuma, Chairman of the Economic Policy Council, Professor Anil Jayanta, Senior Economic Advisor to the President on Economic and Financial Affairs, along with key members of the Economic Policy Council, including Sunil Handunnetti, Professor Seetha Bandara Ranatunga, Sunil Gamage, Senior Presidential Advisor Duminda Hulugamuwa, Dr. Nandasiri Kihimbiyahetti, Professor O.G. Dayaratne Banda, and Amaraseena Athukorala.
