United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene has stated that during the Executive Committee meeting, it was agreed to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections under one of two symbols, either the gas cylinder or the elephant.
He further mentioned that the proposal discussed in the Executive Committee will be deliberated with other parties, including the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) group, and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) group, with whom the UNP plans to form an alliance, before arriving at a final decision.
Several key meetings, including the Executive Committee gathering, were held at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, under the leadership of former President and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss the general election. During these meetings, district leaders, seat organizers, managers, and other party activists participated in the discussions.
