According to ADIC, the government spends 237 billion rupees annually for those who fall ill due to alcohol.
In a statement to mark World Sobriety Day tomorrow (3), they said nearly three million people die prematurely each year due to alcohol.
Infectious diseases account for eight out of 10 preventable deaths worldwide.
It is stated that alcohol is one of the 4 factors that cause these diseases.
ADIC emphasized that 50 premature deaths are reported daily in Sri Lanka due to the use of alcohol.
The number of premature deaths reported per year is between 15000 and 20000.
