Excise companies agree to pay taxes

Excise Commissioner General M.J. Gunasiri stated that all companies have agreed to settle the outstanding tax amounts for the years 2023 and 2024 by November 30.

He also dismissed claims made by some parties that a large number of excise licenses were issued illegally during the presidential election period as false.

He clarified that, based on a policy decision by the government, only 172 excise licenses had been issued since May of the previous year.

Through this, the government was able to generate an income of approximately 2.2 billion rupees, according to the Excise Commissioner General.
