As the new Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, a Member of Parliament of the National People’s Power (NPP) Party, was sworn in a few moments ago in front of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The swearing-in took place today (24) at the Presidential Secretariat, marking the beginning of the appointment of the new government’s cabinet.
Dr. Harini Amarasuriya is the third woman to become the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Before this, Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike was the first Prime Minister of the world and Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunga was the second Prime Minister of this country.
It is also special that Miss Harini Amarasuriya, appointed to the post of Prime Minister, has been assigned the subject of Minister of Education, Health, Labour, Industry, Science and Technology and Investment.
