A police constable from Maradana Police Station, who was assigned for special duties during the presidential election, has been arrested along with his friend by a team of officers from the Grandpass Police. The arrest was made in connection with a robbery.
The 25-year-old constable, who was assigned to special duties for the election from the Kahathuduwa Police Station, was involved in the incident.
According to the police, the constable left his duty without informing his superiors and, along with his friend, arrived at Grandpass on a motorcycle yesterday (22). Both were dressed in civilian clothes.
While in Grandpass, they reportedly stopped a man traveling on the road, searched him, and stole his mobile phone, valued at Rs. 80,000. Later, they allegedly robbed another person’s wallet, which contained Rs. 470.
The constable and his friend are now in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
