According to the official results of the 2024 Presidential Election, released by the Election Commission before the second-preference vote counting begins, Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the National People’s Power (NPP) has secured 5,634,915 votes, representing 42.31% of the total.
Sajith Premadasa of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has received 4,363,035 votes, accounting for 32.76% of the total.

Due to the fact that none of the candidates received more than 50% of the votes, for the first time in the history of the presidential election in this country, the second and third preferences are being counted.
Accordingly, the Election Commission had announced that the other candidates, except the first two, had been removed from the presidential race.
